Château Roumieu is a family estate, handed down from generation to generation since the early 18th century. Often passed on as a dowry through the women of the family, it is now run by Catherine Craveia Goyaud.
The name “Roumieu” comes from one of the estate's plots and refers to a place where pilgrims passed on the Way of St James to Santiago de Compostela.
Grapes: 89% Sémillon, 10% Sauvignon, 1% Muscadelle
Terroir: clay-limestone plateau of starfish limestone (calcaire à astéries), with a layer of red clay (20 to 40 cm) over a limestone plateau.
Tasting note
The wines of Château Roumieu “Haut Placey” follow in the tradition of long-ageing Sauternes that can be enjoyed young, to appreciate the wide variety of fruit aromas, or left to develop over the years (more than 10 years). Aromas of dried fruit, flowers (acacia or linden), honey and roasted grains then emerge. An elegant, expressive wine that seduces with its suppleness and richness: the result of perfect balance.
